WMOP/WGGG Station history
WMOP is a commercial radio station in Ocala, Florida, broadcasting to the Gainesville-Ocala, Florida area on 900 AM. WMOP is the FOX Radio affiliate for Ocala; additionally, it produces local content which is also broadcast on Gainesville station WGGG, owned by the same company and co-marketed together with WMOP as "Florida SportsTalk". WMOP originally signed on in 1953. The current sports format began in 1996.
From 1961 to 1985, WMOP(AM) had an FM sister station at 93.7 FM, which is now known as WOGK.
WMOP began as a 1000 Watt Daytime only radio station. WMOP was then upgraded to a 5000 Watt 24 hour station, Class D broadcasting on a 600’ radio tower on NE Jacksonville Road in Ocala.
In June of 2012, WMOP added 100.1 FM in the Ocala market.
WGGG originally went on-air in 1946 in Gainesville, Florida, broadcasting to the Gainesville-Ocala, Florida area on 1230 AM.
WGGG broadcasts on a 200’ tower located on 63rd Street in Gainesville, Florida.
The current management team began operations of the now four-station cluster in 2012.
